Life-teen update (03-11-2007)
I know the question that many of you are asking yourselves, and some of you are even asking me. Why oh why did I shave? And not just my face, but my entire head! For those of you who are worried that I have run off and joined some kind of mysterious cult that requires me to shave my head or hooked of with some kind of white supremacy group than please allow me to calm your fears. I have done nothing of the sort. Why then did I choose to cut my hair so short that even my scalp felt a bit nervous? Quite simply because I felt like it. Before I became engaged to my lovely wife it was quite common for me to be running around without any hair on top of my head. I had grown it out for her because she wanted me to have hair at our wedding and I felt a sudden and strong urge to return to my pre-wedding baldness for a while. Last weeks rousing discussion about St. Rita left me with a few thoughts that I didn’t have time to share at Life-teen, so I wanted to share them with you now. Nothing is to big or to small for God. He can move mountains with faith the size of a mustard seed, and what’s more he wants to. We are not deists, who believe that God created to world and now just sits up in heaven and watches it go, like some kind of divine clockmaker. For us as Catholics God should play a much more personal role in our lives. He wants to work miracles in our lives. Just as nothing is to big for God, it is also important to remember that nothing is to small for him either. We don’t need to have an abusive alcoholic husband with a gambling addiction (like St. Rita) before we turn to God. We should turn to him with even our smallest problems. We must also remember to turn to him in our joy and thank him for all that he has done for us. I challenge all of you during the rest of this Lenten period to focus on turning to God in the big and small things in life and giving him thanks and praise.
