Life-teen update (11-12-2006)
This weeks adventures in the life of a youth minister involve intense pain and suffering, the thrill of victory, and the bitter taste of defeat; and all this on Monday night while playing dodge ball with the middle school group. I guess I could some up the whole thing by just saying that it was a lot of fun, but where is the joy in taking the short road? My right shoulder has almost made a complete recovery. For those of you wondering what to expect this week at Life-teen, all I can say is make sure you bring a solid pair of athletic shoes to change into after mass. How this is really different from any other week I’m not really certain, but you have been warned. By this point I am sure that you have all received a registration form for the upcoming youth rally down in Kennewick on November 17-19. We have been talking about this for quite some time now, so I hoe that you have been able to decide whether or not you are planning on attending. If you are I need all of your paperwork by Monday November 13. This allows me enough time to try and arrange for all of us to make our pilgrimage down to the Tri-Cities, (whooping and screaming all the way I am sure) without leaving anyone behind crying on the corner of Elliot and Cherry. This week I also made my second visit up to the high school for lunch. Whereas last time I was only able to make it for first lunch, this week I only made it to second lunch. I have decided that I enjoy second lunch much more than I liked first lunch. I think that there may be some type of direct correlation (cocktail party word) between my enjoyment of lunch and the number of people who come and talk to me. This week I drug our ever faithful seminarian Juan Godina with me. My plot was that when people would see Juan, they would naturally want to go over and talk to him. I would then jump out of the shadows where I had been lurking and join the conversation. My plan worked brilliantly and Juan and I were able to corner five or six of you before we had to head back to the church, we even got invited back for lunch on Thursday, but alas, were unable to attend. That about brings us to speed on everything that has happened in my life this week. A bit boring I know, but next week I might slay a dragon or something like that. The only way to find out is to keep reading the bulletin (though all dragon slayings are also announced at youth group as a matter of protocol
