The Zombie War: And what it takes to protect the ones you love (March 23 2008)

In addition to enjoying video games and movies, one of my other pastimes involves the study of the undead, and no, I don’t mean Christ. I am referring to the undead hordes, zombies. When fighting zombies there are several rules that will help you to have success. The Zombie Survival guide (yes, a survival guide for fighting zombies does exist) tells us that zombies feel no fear, therefore you shouldn’t either. This echoes the sentiment and often repeated slogan of John Paul II, “Be Not Afraid.” This simple phrase sums up how we are called to live our lives. Another one of the top 10 tips describes how the secular world wants us to live our lives, “keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert.” We live in an age where religion is a private matter, not something to be discussed with friends in the cafeteria at the high school. Keep quiet, keep low, in other words, don’t do anything that is going to make you stand out or draw attention. While this may be important in avoiding zombie detection, we are not zombie hunting, at least right now. What we need to do is stand up and go forward. Men need to be men, and women need to be women. As foolish as that statement may sound to some, it seems that our culture has gotten the two genders confused. We tell jokes that are degrading to both genders and treat women like they are objects and men like they are beasts. Honor and dignity only seem to exist in fairy tales and Jane Austin stories. Why? Because it is easier to just “fit in” If everyone else is doing something wrong, you are going to stand out if you don’t go along. Standing out takes courage and strength. It is also the first step to becoming a real man or woman. The lack of real women in our age is just as great as the lack of real men. How do I know? Because a real woman doesn’t accept or encourage fakes. Real women have high standards and want a real man as their husband. Real men know a real woman when they see one, and they know that a real woman is forth fighting for. Real men have honor, and that honor means treating all women a certain way, with a special dignity. When women refuse to be treated with that dignity and lower their standards, men forget their honor; and lose it. Now is the time to take it back. Real men stand and fight the incoming zombie hordes.
